Property Law & Conveyancing

De Meyer Law is a full service practice that handles all property matters, from the routine to the complex. Services include the structuring of an ownership vehicle, negotiations with all affected parties and lending advice on matters such as due diligence, land use and financing options. In order to speed up the registration of transfers we request clearance figures from the Municipality, as well as cancellation figures from the Bank to which the property is bonded as soon as the Offer to Purchase is received by our offices.  This enables us to proceed with registration up to three weeks earlier and ensures that possible delays can be attended to timeously.  Should the transaction not proceed for any reason the application is merely revoked, and there are no costs incurred by either the Seller or the Purchaser. The efficiency of our process ensures that our costs are carefully controlled and we are able to pass this advantage on to our Clients through reduced fees.

Wills & Estate Planning

Carefully planning your estate is one of the best means of ensuring your loved ones are well taken care of after your passing. It is therefore of utmost importance that your will is drafted with skill and precision, taking into account all your personal and familial needs and circumstances. In the process of drafting our wills we employ a four-phase process as more fully explained hereunder.

  1. An initial consultation with Clients allows us to determine your specific needs;
  2. A first draft of the will is then drawn up for perusal by the Client;
  3. Changes and modifications are made to the Clients specifications; and finally
  4. The will is signed and finalised.

Throughout this process De Meyer Law places a strong emphasis on developing rapport and maintaining informed and inclusive communications with Clients and their families.

Registration & Amendments of Trusts

Trusts form an integral part of estate planning and asset protection. A trust is a legal entity that owns assets on behalf of and for the benefit of its beneficiaries. The advantage of this is that your assets are protected from third party creditors who have a claim against your personal estate. Another major advantage of a Trust is the cost effective and timely manner in which the use of assets can be passed to beneficiaries after the death of the Founder. Upon death the estate of a breadwinner can take up to 2 years to finalise, which often places dependants in a very difficult position. The use of a Trust in this context cannot be overemphasised. At De Meyer Law we offer expert advice and assistance in the registration of new trusts and the amendment of existing trusts.
